First Met Member Highlights
May 24, 2019
Greetings First Met Family!
This is probably the most challenging letter I have ever written to you.
Three years ago, we embarked on a vision to build a dedicated building for worshipping our God—a new sanctuary. It will be a facility that glorifies God where: worship takes place without basketball goals; members meet and fellowship in a grand foyer with a coffee bar and bookstore; parents place their babies and toddlers in a safe loving environment; and much more. It will also be a place that benefits our community.
After 152 weeks we are so close, but not there yet. We have secured a contractor. We have a new design that you’ll love. We have two financial institutions ready to finance us. And you have contributed over $1.1 million (THANK YOU!), but there is still have a gap of $400,000 from our goal.
I’m writing you to tell you: We need you to reach our goal. I call on the faith and hope in you to produce a spirit of sacrifice for this worthy cause. It’s not equal giving but equal sacrifice.” (1 Chronicles 21:24) Some have completed their pledges. Many are very close to completion. And even if you’re not close or have not pledged, we still need you to reach our goal. We can reach our goal if everyone sacrifices!
Here’s vital info to help you prepare for your sacrifice:
- The theme for June will be “Preparation for Abundance.” Each Sunday I’ll have a word that will lead you to abundance.
- Each Wednesday at 7:30 pm, we will have dynamic quest speakers to give practical, spiritual insights on how to live abundantly. They will be: Pastor Anissa Perkins who wrote the book: Money Needs Me; Wallace Williams, CPA (Budgeting and Tax Tips), Shawn Dorrough of The Wealth Shift Project & Guide Stone, and Keith Davis author of Maximizing Your Own Treasure Chest. Each Wednesday, we’ll close praying for Abundance from God. All Community Life Groups are expected to attend.
- The 4th Sunday June 23rd is our Day of Extravagant Giving. Every member is expected to give extravagantly on this day over and above tithes and offerings. Also, gifts will be provided for those who have or will complete their pledge on that day.
- You don’t have to wait to give. Each Sunday you’ll have the opportunity to give through Donate Way. It will record each name and keep a running tally. It’s going to be exciting!
- We’ll talk vision and have testimonies!!!
We can do this First Met! We must do this for God! Join Lady O and I in seeing the vision unfold.
Your Spiritual Father,
Dr. John D. Ogletree, Jr.

Greetings First Met Family,
I pray that you and your family are finding joy and peace.
These are exciting times in the life of our church. Since March, hundreds of our members have been preparing for this season of decision regarding our Lifestyle Stewardship Capital Campaign. The presence of God has been manifested in all we have done: the gathering on the great day of fellowship held at the church, our 24 hours prayer celebration where hundreds of members testified to the power of God in their lives, and the dedicated leadership which has guided our activities. There are so many of us working together to do God’s will.
On Sunday we launched the season of decision. Each of us will be asked to make an over and above sacrificial gift to the campaign for the next three years. After much prayer and reflection, Lady O and I shared our commitment of $30,000.00 over the next three years.
Our gift was formed by two things, the great need that is before us as a congregation and the desire to give a gift that reflects genuine sacrifice on our part. Your gift ought to be guided by these same two notions. Remember, it is not an equal gift but equal sacrifice. May your gift be empowered by an adjustment in your lifestyle to the glory and honor of God.
Our leadership will make its commitment on June 8, 2016 preceding the great event ‘Vision Sunday’, June 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM at First Met. Each member, your family and friends are encouraged to join us for this Sunday of commitment. On Sunday, June 26, 2016, we will return to our regular worship services which will be our First Fruits Sunday. At that time, we are encouraging as many as possible to give 10% of their commitment on that Sunday. If you are unable to give at that level, please feel free to give what you can. Every gift will be appreciated.
God is doing great things at First Met but each of us must be led by Him.
With prayerful expectation and much hope,
The New Members ministry congratulates the 2016 2nd Quarter Orientation Grads.
The New Members Ministry’s purpose is twofold: We help members become acquainted with the history and overall function of the church. We encourage them to move beyond a “positional membership of belonging to their new church home to a participating membership”.
To achieve this, we will study and align ourselves with the FMC vision statement that states: We are a family of faith, leading people to become fully developing followers of Christ by Belonging, Connecting, Growing and Serving.
We then focus on the mission of First Met which is to be a Dynamic Congregation, that Declares God’s Word to our Community and beyond; that Draws people to Christ; that leads people to Develop a godly lifestyle; and seeks to Demonstrate God’s love through service. At the end of New Member class and Network, we present you with opportunities to grow, give and serve.
The New Member Process
New members orientation consists of 3 consecutive orientation classes that are held every first, second and third Sunday of each month. On the fourth Sunday, members are welcomed to the VIP You Belong Graduation Reception.
VIP Graduate Reception
The VIP reception is on the fourth Sunday of each month to recognize the completion and transitioning of the new member. Members get to connect with ministry, Network & Fulfillment Hour leaders. Certificates of Completion are also presented.

Every new year Christians all across the world come together to experience the “Daniel Fast.” The fast usually begins the first Sunday or Monday after the new year. The Daniel Fast is based on the fasting experience of the prophet Daniel who objected the Babylonian laws of eating. The King’s food was against dietary laws, Daniel and his friends were against wine, and the King’s foods had been offered up to idols and demons. The Daniel Fast is a spiritual commitment to God to stay away from these foods. Click to Continue
